5 Things You Need to Know About Dermaplaning
1. What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is the latest new facial beauty treatment to hit salons…and it’s amazing! It is basically an advanced exfoliation treatment that:
- removes dead skin cells & vellus hair (peach fuzz)
- reduces lines, pores & pigmentation
- leaves your skin looking & feeling incredible…you’ll be positively glowing!
Dead skin cells and fine vellus hair can result in a dull complexion. It can also make breakouts more likely as the dead skin cells and fine hairs can trap dirt and oil; blocking pores, clogging hair follicles and causing blemishes. Dermaplaning removes these dead cells, leaving your skin brighter and more radiant.
2. How does it work?
Dermaplaning works by physically exfoliating the skin on your face by gently shaving the surface of the skin off, using a sterile surgical scalpel. This removes any dead skin cells along with vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) and triggers cell regeneration.
What will your skin be like afterwards?
In a word…fabulous! As the treatment triggers cell regeneration, your skin will look brighter, smoother and more radiant. Those with rough or dry skin textures will find the treatment very effective and leave their skin glowing with health. It will even help to minimise superficial acne scarring or uneven skin tone and improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
You may experience a little redness immediately after the treatment and your skin may feel drier than usual for a few days, but applying a good moisturiser and sun screen will help this.
As well as brighter, smoother and more radiant skin, you will also find that your skincare products penetrate more easily and so are more effective and make-up can be applied more evenly. What’s not to love?!
4. How long does it take and how long will the results last?
The treatment itself is fairly quick, taking around 30 minutes to complete, and results will be pretty much instant, lasting for around a month.
5. Who is dermaplaning suitable for?
Dermaplaning is particularly effective on those with dry, rough or uneven skin textures and people concerned with large visible pores and superficial acne scarring. Cellular turnover inevitably slows as we age, so this treatment is fantastic for those with mature skin as it removes dead cell build-up and promotes new cell regeneration. It is even suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding who would not be able to have a chemical peel.
The treatment is not however recommended for those with particularly oily skin or suffering with active acne or those with very dark, thick facial hair.
