Matrix: Our chosen brand

We use the MATRIX range of colouring products at Stylish Strands for our colouring & bleaching services. MATRIX is the No1 professional hair care brand in the US and are constantly innovating to keep up with all modern trends. They offer an extensive range of innovative, high quality products to cover our wide range of services and allow us to keep up with the latest trends. We know we can rely on Matrix to deliver fabulous, professional results every time.

Matrix use a Hexaforce polymer in their colouring products, which strengthen the inner cortex of the hair, as well as ceramide complex & cationic polymer to equalize the hair porosity meaning even results. Natural Jojoba oil also helps nourish and polish the surface of the hair. By using Matrix we ensure the integrity of the hair is improved, your hair structure is fortified and you get deep conditioning for up to 20 washes!

Blonde hair

For clients who wish to have blonde hair, we offer Matrix’s amazing ‘Light Master’ system. A powerful high-speed lightener which eliminates warm, yellow undertones to reveal clear, sparking ultra light tones. The added benefit of this system is that it comes with conditioning Panthenol which helps retain moisture in your hair, leaving it glossy and shining with health.

We always use a re-bonder in our bleaching methods, to maintain healthy hair and avoid any breakage.

Semi-permanent treatments

Semi-permanent colour

Want to try a colour? Then a semi-permanent colour is the perfect option. We use ‘Colour Sync’ from Matrix; a semi-permanent colour that lasts up to 24 washes if it’s a natural shade, fashion colours last longer. Colour Sync beautifully conditions the hair and enhances the glossy shine.

Gloss shine / semi-permanent

We can also help your hair look even more glossy with our fabulous ‘Gloss Shine’ semi-permanent treatment.

Aftercare

Its important to avoid washing your hair after a colour service for at least 24 hours to allow the colour molecules to settle in and maintain a true colour as it can be affected by outside factors.

It is advisable to use MATRIX hair care products to enhance and maintain the colour. Your stylist will advise you on the best products for your hair type at your aftercare consultation.

On-trend looks available

Balayage – colour is applied using a multi-tonal technique, to create texture & frame the face, giving you a beautiful sun-kissed look

Ombre – the gradual blending of one colour hue to another, usually moving tints & shades from light at the ends to dark at the roots

Babylights – very delicate highlights that make your hair look multi-dimensional because they are so fine. Suitable for any colour or length of hair

Micro lights – a subtle colour technique where very thin sections of hair are coloured, giving a super-subtle, shimmery, sun-kissed look

Toner – used to neutralise brassy yellow and orange tones on bleached hair, giving a much more natural looking hair tone

Hair Story

Our client’s hair challenge

This client came to Stylish Strands on a recommendation from a friend. She was really struggling to get her hair to the shade of blonde and condition that she wanted.

After years of bleaching at another salon and using original GHDs at home, her hair had broken into three distinct layers, which she was really unhappy with. She was concerned that her hair was yellow from the bleach and the colour was very uneven.

What we advised

After a discussion with the client, we concluded that the first priority was to get the hair to a condition where it was no longer breaking. We recommended the ‘Matrix Total Results Re-Bond Trio’ be used on every wash to nourish the hair. This 3-step regime is fantastic! It improves the health of your hair, strengthening it and preventing further breakage. We also advised that she change her straighteners to less hot version and reduce the frequency of straightening to allow the hair to repair.

The next step was to get the client’s hair colour to be more even; less yellow and more ash in colour. To correct the colour but not risk damaging the hair further, we used a less harsh bleach and only applied it to new hair at the root. We used a much more gentle, nourishing colour on the rest of the hair. We advised the client that this process takes longer to get to the final colour that she was looking for but would be much kinder to her hair. Sometimes when there is significant damage, we have to take our time and build results over time, but it’s definitely worth it.

The results

After 6 weeks, you could see a real improvement in the condition of her hair and after 3 colouring appointments we had achieved the colour she was looking for. Our client is delighted with the results!
